In the National Football League, the offensive unit comprises the eleven players currently on the field who maintain possession of the football. In Madden NFL 2002, a player start screen showcases the players as they enter the stadium field. The primary objective of this unit is to propel the ball progressively down the field utilizing a strategic combination of rushing and passing plays, with the ultimate aim of scoring touchdowns or field goals.

Madden Coaching Formations: The offensive formation is divided into two principal categories: Offensive Line: Consisting of five players who function as primary blockers positioned immediately in front of the line of scrimmage, these individuals are generally prohibited from receiving passes. Skill Positions: Comprising six players tasked with ball handling, pass reception, or specialized blocking responsibilities.

Operational Mechanics: The Madden NFL 2000 offensive team is allotted four attempts, referred to as "downs," to advance the ball a minimum of ten yards. Upon successfully gaining ten yards, the team achieves a "first down," which resets the attempt counter and grants four additional opportunities to advance another ten yards. However, the opposing team's defense often times stops the offense and forces the team to punt.

Keyboard Interface: Although the keyboard interface may be employed to develop a personalized playbook, the game was engineered specifically for gamepad utilization to enable efficient real-time play calling, audibles, and quarterback passing mechanics.

Modes of Play: Madden NFL 2000 team game photos show that players have the option to engage in Exhibition games, Arcade and traditional modes, a multi-season Franchise mode, or classic playoff matchups.
